And these are just FIVE out of millions of inspiring women all over the world! Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting week at Prompt Nights. I thought it would be best suited for us to celebrate womanhood as it was International Women’s Day on March 8, 2017. Cher once wisely said; ‘Woman areĀ the real architects of Society.’ Well she certainly knew what she was talking about! This day emerged around the time period of the early 1900’s from the movements for women’s rights. Although much has been achieved since that era, yet so much more still remains to be done, when it comes to discussing the issue of gender equality. Tonight, I want you guys to let us know the woman in you! That’s right, I want you to celebrate yourself. Tell us about your qualities and what sets you apart from the rest. Previously written work is more than welcome. For further inspiration please refer to the three amazing poems below:

Phenomenal WomanĀ

by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
Iā€™m not cute or built to suit a fashion modelā€™s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think Iā€™m telling lies.
I say,
Itā€™s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
Iā€™m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
Thatā€™s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
Itā€™s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
Iā€™m a woman
Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,
Thatā€™s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they canā€™t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still canā€™t see.
I say,
Itā€™s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
Iā€™m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
Thatā€™s me.

Now you understand
Just why my headā€™s not bowed.
I donā€™t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
Itā€™s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
ā€™Cause Iā€™m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
Thatā€™s me.

The Truth of Woman

by Sir Walter Scott

Woman’s faith, and woman’s trust –
Write the characters in the dust;
Stamp them on the running stream,
Print them on the moon’s pale beam,
And each evanescent letter
Shall be clearer, firmer, better,
And more permanent, I ween,
Than the thing those letters mean.

I have strain’d the spider’s thread
‘Gainst the promise of a maid;
I have weigh’d a grain of sand
‘Gainst her plight of heart and hand;
I told my true love of the token,
How her faith proved light, and her word was broken:
Again her word and truth she plight,
And I believed them again ere night.

Woman in Love

by Rainer Maria Rilke

That is my window. Just now
I have so softly wakened.
I thought that I would float.
How far does my life reach,
and where does the night begin

I could think that everything
was still me all around;
transparent like a crystal’s
depths, darkened, mute.

I could keep even the stars
within me; so immense
my heart seems to me; so willingly
it let him go again.

whom I began perhaps to love, perhaps to hold.
Like something strange, undreamt-of,
my fate now gazes at me.

For what, then, am I stretched out
beneath this endlessness,
exuding fragrance like a meadow,
swayed this way and that,

calling out and frightened
that someone will hear the call,
and destined to disappear
inside some other life.
