I am often told that an elephant withstands
thru arrows shot; woeful being thus human
lot. They pay no heed to conscious thought;
their conduct mostly coarse and low. Lo! as
elephants haul from out of mud; bear thus
witness to their pride and thud.

AlthoughΒ elephants seem but wild to us;
altruism beams through flesh and blood.
Thus aim to transit lone round the world;
as an elephant bold along the forest floor.
Hence on winding lakes and rivers wide;
fare with upright pace as men of yore.

Bless their bruised deep bosom sore;
Thus lovelier in vision instead of lore.
