I woke in time to see morning
smile, brush away clouds
that seem adamant
to let the soul step out from
dreary dark.
What strange realization
is this, that sweeps through
heart fields and floods
unconscious breath.
Resentment is a burden
that weighs down restful mind,
like wind that knows not
difference from waving grass
and infecund land.
I am sunshine when the sky
is grey, I don’t care how harsh
and obdurate your soul is,
even the coldest heart melts
when kindness seeps in.
Let the chips fall where they may.

You certainly have captured the feelings that seem to emanate from the picture of her contemplaing her life Sanaa. She is looking up possibly happily rather than bowed and saddened, so she will have a good day!

What lovely opening lines, Sanaa:
‘I woke in time to see morning
smile…’
I also love the ‘strange realization’ sweeping through ‘heart fields’ and the echoes of the song ‘You Are My Sunshine’ in the lines:
‘I am sunshine when the sky
is grey…”
Thank you so much, Kim π so glad you liked it β€οΈ

The smile of the dawn that brings realization is HUGE! I still haven’t completely decided to give up my resentment, though, yes, yes, they burden me. Poems like this break through the fog with great sunshine!

That is one of my trademarks, teat kindly even those who are, upset with me and my family. Going in, smiling as the snowplow opens the paths.
