‘It’s all about paying attention to detail.’ she remarked adding ten cups of white bread cubes. I observed with admiration as she went on. Brunch at our house on Sundays are a treat. The entire family gathers together as my sister prepares a meal. ‘Could you hand me the maple syrup?’ I smiled and handed her the bottle. ‘You know mama’s birthday is coming up don’t you’, I asked. She continued to pour cream cheese mixture over the bread. ‘Ofcourse!’ she answered. ‘We must plan something nice!’ I took out from the refrigerator, strawberries and apples.
The afternoon sun shone brightly outside as we served French Toast Souffle. I remember glancing on everyone’s faces as they devoured their plates. Content is key when it comes to building relationships. ‘I can’t wait until the end of the week!’ she jumped up with glee. ‘Really?’ I saw as my mother raised her eyebrows expectantly. ‘What’s happening then?’ I scooted over and listened as my sister went on to explain about the project she was working on. Her excitement was akin to purple blossoms in Spring.
Later, I sat down feeling exhilarated. I switched on the laptop and got caught up with writing. Words were easy like the wind, blowing soft their voices into my ear. I jumped as my phone vibrated and smiled to read a message from an old friend. I realized then, that life would be meaningless were there lack of passion ― whether it be writing or simply enjoying a good meal.

Endeavors, or just life itself, done without passion is but a bland meal, not memorable, not worthy–just going through the motions. Nice to see you embrace & endorse passion in all you do.
Thank you so much, Glenn 🙂 so glad you liked it ❤️
Nice description of a meal where you and your sister were planning a surprise for your mother with your mother pretending not to know.
Thank you so much, Frank 😀 so good to see you ❤️
I like that you brought out the passion and included your writing… since it seemed watching her cook was your cup of tea. We all have a appetite for something. Nice.
Thank you so much, Wolfsrosebud 🙂 so glad you liked it ❤️
You have such gentleness of spirit and showing a little of it through your connection with your family over a meal from preparation to enjoyment of it all. This was very touching to read, sweet, sensitive and strikingly straight to the heart.
Aww!❤️ Thank you so much, Gina 😀 so good to see you!❤️
You made my mouth water with the description, but with love as the main ingredient, I suppose french FRY soufflé would be palatable. And the haiku is wonderful!
Thank you so much, Amaya 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
So much fun to be thinking of what’s coming for your own mother’s birthday! Discussed among the siblings would be ideal as ‘the ‘burden’ was being shared!

I adore the idea of the wind being like voices blowing their ideas into her ear. It makes me think that the wind is feeding her poetry through her scalp. Novel. 🙂
