Such a concentrated and strong poem – like the sky..she has strength..being predator or prey is often a state of mind as well as physical – aptly displayed here
I wonder if predators know they’re predators. They say things like, “I honestly felt that way at the time.” I wonder. Maybe they’re just morons hungry souls just grabbing what right is in front of them thinking that the next thing they ingest will satisfy them and then, of course, it doesn’t. Beautiful write of the darker elements out there!
I was about to say what Victoria has said. I think many deceivers deceive themselves as well. Perhaps some of what we see as deception is actually a lack of self-awareness on the part of the deceiver. The end result is the same, however, for the theme of your poem. https://judydykstrabrown.com/2016/08/11/surfaces/
A powerful and insightful piece and your title is so eloquent. Wisdom often comes at a terrible piece – but once gleaned – one does not fall prey, ever again.
This is a new approach, Sanaa, which I like very much, particularly the lines:
‘It’s strange how often a heart is / broken having pierced the crude/ and false disguise.’
Happy Sunday Sanaa
i am happy you dropped in at my Sunday Lime today, i did an edit though; i changed the video, and posted one of Cleopatra at the 2016 Olympics
there is the determination of the strong persona, very necessary in the jungles of today’s wilds
much love…

“Deception in the course of life is
merely a lie reduced to practice.” another good poem Sanaa.

deception is well defined here, a predator indeed & so is the good pronouncement “I fall not prey”….nice thoughts Sanaa…
I am so glad you liked it Sumana 😀 and thank you for another inspiring prompt ❤️

“Take hope away from human heart
observe as men transform to beast.”
Powerful lines. And yes, we must not fall prey to deception. We are rational beings and critical listening is key these days.
Excellent thoughtful poem!
Thank you so much Lillian ❤ so glad you agree 🙂
Right on! I blame some of it on evolution, but without evolution we wouldn’t be here, would we? That doesn’t help broken hearts.
Definitely 🙂 thank you kindly, Nan ❤

Oh I do love when you look into the dark part of human hearts… the lies, the words, and those men who gain from being worst.
Better to be cautious at times 🙂 thank you Bjorn.
The predatory nature of this is a different slant than I expected, but did you express this perfectly. Superb work, Sanaa!
Thank you Walter 🙂 so glad you liked the poem.
Powerful commentary on the human heart, Sanaa. Despair will destroy us, we choose hope!

pierced the crude and false disguise
How often one gets frustrated or on point of despair over false pretenses. But there is certainly hope to keep on moving!
