I am searching through sepulchral
depths of the sea, where sunlight
used to glimmer and address the waters.Blood coral, rock polyps, relatives
of sea anemones, there is symphony of
muted strings collecting in their souls.Beauty drank the shallow thoughts
of men, as oil spills into bone deep reefs
I utter what seems like the bitterest
weep.Above the mournful sky yearns to sing,
as my eyelids droop in pursuit of
coral dreams.

Beautiful words lamenting the ruination of our seas and sea life . It’s so sad to know these things are happening. 🙁
Definitely 🙁 thanks for stopping by, Ellecee ❤️
So sad what happens to the coral reefs… could tie to the vice of greed for me.
Thank you so much, Bjorn 🙂 so glad you liked it ❤️
There are wonderful sounds throughout your poem, especially ‘sepulchral depths of the sea’ and a ‘symphony of muted strings collecting in their souls’. I also love the lines:
‘Beauty drank the shallow thoughts
of men…’
and
‘…my eyelids droop in pursuit of
coral dreams’.
Thank you so much, Kim 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤️

Yes, to look at what we had done, in our pursuit for greed. It is sad.
Definitely 🙁 thanks for stopping by, Annell ❤️
We have destroyed our coral reefs. We are a brutal species.
😬😬
Beautifully worded, as always. And how appropriate you chose this painting – as the damaged coral has been bleached of colour.
Thank you so much, Rosemary 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
This is so good…especially love ..Beauty drank the shallow thoughts…
Thank you so much, Vivian 😀 so good to see you ❤️
I was not expecting the oil spill to damage the beauty of the scene.. that was an excellent interpretation of the picture.
Thank you so much, Kerry 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
enjoyed your interpretation…. it also had a powerful statement…
Thank you so much, Robert 😀 so good to see you ❤️
I am headed to the Great Barrier Reef in late August, dreaming of a long look at the coral. I truly enjoyed your poem.
Thank you so much, Helen 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Oh, how beautifully evocative, Sanaa! Beginning with this mouth-watering line: “I am searching through sepulchral
depths of the sea”
Thank you so much, Frank 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
Those coral dreams can be strange to the regular folk. I liked the “bitterest
weep,” I think I’ve had a few of those.
..
Thank you so much, Jim 🙂 so good to see you ❤️
They are such a place of beauty. what are we thinking when we destroy these century old abodes?
